LIARS is trying to be something different.

Located at 34 Dunlop Street East, LIARS Kitchen + Social brings a supper-club style concept to downtown Barrie. It is not simply a restaurant, and it is not simply a nightclub. Its identity sits between the two: dinner earlier in the evening, cocktails throughout the night, live music, DJs, multiple rooms, and a gradual shift from dining to nightlife as the night goes on.

That makes LIARS one of the more distinct additions to Barrie’s downtown scene.

The concept matters because Barrie’s food-and-drink landscape has long been strong in pubs, patios, casual restaurants, cafés, and traditional dining rooms. LIARS enters a different lane. It is built around mood, movement, music, dress, and social experience. The room is part of the product. The night is part of the product. The transition from dinner into a more energetic late-night atmosphere is the point.

Food-wise, LIARS is more ambitious than a basic bar menu. The menu leans into shareable, polished, social dining: calamari, truffle parmesan frites, whipped ricotta and fig bruschetta, oysters, prime rib sliders, burrata, coconut ceviche, lettuce wraps, chicken bites, steak, smash burgers, rigatoni, tableside Caesar salad, and dessert-style finishes like Bananas Foster, cheesecake, and sticky toffee pudding.

The limitations are also clear. LIARS is not an everyday restaurant. It is open limited days, it is 19+, and it is built around a more dressed-up nightlife experience. That makes it less useful for families, lunches, weekday meals, quiet dinners, takeout, and broad repeat use. A restaurant like Kenzington, Flying Monkeys, or Donaleigh’s may be easier for more people to use more often.

LIARS also still needs time. Newer restaurants and nightlife concepts need to prove consistency, service, food execution, crowd quality, and long-term local importance. A strong concept and beautiful room can make a big first impression, but The Barrie Standard should be careful before ranking it too high until it proves staying power.
